The crystal guide

Nine stones, explained without the mysticism. Start with what you need rather than what looks good in a photograph — the right piece is usually the one you keep reaching for.

How to choose a stone

Most people buy their first crystal because of how it looks, and their second because of how it felt to wear. If you are choosing for someone else, or choosing for a reason, this is the short version:

  • You need to think clearly. Amethyst or clear quartz.
  • You are being hard on yourself. Rose quartz.
  • You are in the middle of a change. Moonstone or labradorite.
  • You are absorbing too much of everyone else's mood. Black obsidian.
  • You cannot get started. Citrine.
  • You are waiting for something to open up. Green aventurine.
  • You have something difficult to say. Sodalite.
None of this is medicine. It is a physical reminder of an intention you have already set — which is, in practice, the thing that actually works.
